Stainless steel and nickel alloys play a very important role in virtually all forms of transportation. Sandmeyer Steel Company’s plate and plate products can be found in automotive parts, tank truck trailers, and military vehicles. Our products also find extensive use in railroad tank cars and coal cars. The aerospace and shipbuilding markets are covered in separate application sections.
303, 304L/304, 309S/309H/309, 316L/316, 316L/316 E-Z Drill, 347H/347, 410, and 17-4PH are all utilized in the manufacture of auto tooling, gears, sprockets, stampings, power transmissions, and other auto components.
Truck tank trailers and manways are usually built from 316L/316, 317L/317, and duplex LDX-2101®, and 2205.
17-4PH is used in the manufacture of military armored vehicles and shock absorbers.
Alloys 316L/316, 317L/317, LDX-2101®, and 2205 find extensive use in the construction of railroad tanks cars and manways. 304L/304 and 316L/316 can be found in tank car valves. 410 is often used in manufacturing railroad coal cars.
